Prospective Marriage visa

The prospective marriage visa permits the applicant enter Australia to marry his/her prospective spouse and then apply for a Partner visa.

Eligibility

Overview

  • This visa, commonly known as the fiancé(e) visa, is for persons wishing to come to Australia to marry their sponsor, who must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or eligible NZ citizen.

Sponsor

  • The applicants must be sponsored by his or her prospective spouse. 

Age

  • The applicant must be 18 years old or older when they apply for the visa. 

The health and character requirements

  • All the applicants (including family members) must meet the health and character requirements.  

Debt to the Australian Government

  • All the applicants (including family members) must not have any debt to the Australian Government.  

Visa cancelled or a previous application refused

  • While the applicant  were in Australia and If their visa cancelled or visa application have been refused then they  might not be eligible for this visa. 

Best interests of the child

  • The applicant might not grant this visa if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.   

Physically meet with sponsor

An applicant for the Prospective Marriage (300) visa must:

  • have personally known, i.e. met with, the Australian sponsor physically.

Married in Australia

  • The applicant must be engaged to be married to the Australian sponsor in Australia.

Got married on time

  • The applicant must marry the Australian sponsor in Australia within the visa period (within 9 months of entry).

Genuine spousal relationship

  • The applicant must intend to live together in a genuine spousal relationship after marriage.

Apply Partner visa

  •  The applicant must apply for the Partner visa (820/801) in Australia within the visa period.
