This visa permits the applicant to take part in workplace-based occupational training activities to improve their skills for their job, area of tertiary study, field of expertise or in a professional development training program in Australia.

Sponsor

  • Only temporary activities sponsor can sponsor the applicant for this visa.   

Nominated

Sponsor must have nominated the applicant to participate in a program of occupational training unless the sponsor is a Australian Commonwealth Government agency. 


Nomination requirements are different depending on the purpose or type of training.


There are 3 types of occupational training covered by this visa:


Occupational training required for registration

  • Workplace-based training is required to get occupational registration, membership or licensing. The registration, membership or licensing is mandatory to work in that occupation in Australia or your home country.


Occupational training to improve skills in an eligible occupation

 

Workplace-based structured training programs that:

  • is specifically tailored and timed to the training needs of the nominated person
  • is in relation to an occupation specified on the list of eligible skilled occupations
  • involves a nominee who has recent and suitable prior experience. This can include employment experience or study experience that:
    • is the equivalent of at least 12 months full-time experience in the occupation
    • has occurred in the 24 months immediately before the nomination is lodged

Occupational training for capacity building overseas includes:


Overseas qualification

Structured workplace-based training in Australia for up to 6 months for students who:


  • are currently enrolled in a foreign educational institution and
  • must complete a period of practical training, research or observation to get their qualification
  • The training must be specifically tailored to the training needs of the nominated person.

Government support

Structured workplace-based occupational training which has:


  • the support of a government agency in Australia or
  • the government in the home country of the nominated trainee
  • Government agency support in Australia must be at the national or state/territory level.
  • Government in the nominated person’s home country must be at the national, state/territory or provincial level.

The training must be specifically tailored and timed to the training needs of the nominated person


Professional development

  • Professional development programs of face-to-face teaching in a classroom or similar environment in Australia. It is for overseas employers to send their managerial or professional employees.

Age

  • The applicant must be 18 years old or older at the time of decision of visa application. 

Temporary substantive visa

The applicant must currently hold a valid temporary substantive visa other than if they are in Australia:

  • a Subclass 403 (Temporary Work (International Relations) visa in the Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular stream) or
  • a Subclass 771 (Transit) visa or 
  • a Special Purpose visa


Otherwise  they have to apply within 28 days of :

  • after the last substantive visa you held ceased to be in effect or
  • after the day you were notified of the Administrative Appeal Tribnual's decision to set aside and substitute the decision to cancel your substantive visa, or the Minister's decision not to revoke the cancellation of your substantive visa. 

The health and character requirements

  • All the applicants (including family members) must meet the health and character requirements.

Health insurance

  • The applicants are personally liable for all your healthcare costs while you are in Australia.

Genuine temporary entrant

  • The applicant has to satisfy the genuine temporary entrant criteria. 

English language

  • The applicant must have functional English.  

Debt to the Australian Government

  • The applicants (including family members) must not have any debt to the Australian Government.

Visa cancelled or a previous application refused

  • While the applicant  were in Australia and If their visa cancelled or visa application have been refused then they  might not be eligible for this visa.

Australian values statement

The applicants who are 18 years of age or older, they must:

  • have read, or had explained to you, the Life in Australia
  •  sign an Australian Values Statement that confirms you will respect the Australian way of life and obey Australian laws.

Best interests of the child

  • The applicant might not grant this visa if it is not in the best interests of an applicant under 18.
